A pivotal policy developed with the Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) and its Inclusion Steering Committee. Writing this client’s first inclusion policy was more than paperwork, it was an act of visioning how the values of a school district and cultural beliefs about its children will influence how services are rendered. Through thorough data and information collection, many meetings, interviews and visioning sessions, the AMBE was able to articulate the change it envisioned to guide its schools in transforming from an exclusive to an inclusive model of education.
